You probably already know this contemporary masterpiece located in the middle of a ravine in Highland Park ,but for those of you who don’t, this is the house where Ferris backed Cameron’s dad’s Ferrari 250 out of the garage/museum in the movie, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”.  The current owner and photographer Ben Rose is now selling his piece of Architecture-porn worthy home for a cool, $2,500,000.  The 5300 square foot home consists of two steel and glass buildings designed by  A. James Speyer and David Haid, both notable architects of the 20th Century.  Cantilevered over a ravine, this woodsy retreat is outfitted with 4 bedrooms and 4 baths with the second building acting as the houses garage/museum.  Who wants to go to this open house? (only pre-approved buyers, please)

Vintage Glam with a Modern Twist

900112-1This couch embodies all that is good and right with the world.  It’s sexy, glam, and comfortable.  My dog’s hair could easily be cleaned.. the only drawback would be that it is leatherette and not leather… $1200 is NOT bad for a couch like this.. it’s unique and you’d be hard pressed to find such a statement piece at a big brand store.  My wish is that Zuo Modern could make a leather version of the Aristocrat sofa, pretty please?  Matching Chairs available, $698

Zuo Modern products are all designed and chosen with two simple ideals in mind. First, they look for clean and prevailing lines and shapes, which are then coupled with classic colors. Second, they examine and review the product to improve production and material quality, all the while keeping the price at a highly competitive selling point. They understand that the best selling products will always be those that inspire a sense of value and worth, along with the significance of aesthetics. In other words, a successful product for Zuo Modern must pass the “wow, this feels solid” test, the “that looks so cool” test, and the “that is a great price” test. This is what makes a Zuo Modern product.

This is what a New York loft should be, minus the central Manhattan locale.  An architectural gem, to say the least, reading the Wall Street Journal with a cup of Joe on the terrace will never be the same.  The reclaimed clocks as windows (sans hands) are beautiful foil for the outstanding view and overall spaciousness.  Natural light galore and the 360° view makes this 6,300 square-foot condo a one-of-a kind.  On sale for $25 million, which if sold, the New York Times says will handily best the $11 million purchase of a Gravesend home in 2006, making the penthouse the most expensive real estate buy in Brooklyn. I am a firm believer in saving where it counts and splurging on the necessities ;-)   Items that outlast the test of time are well worth it… Louis Vuitton, Karen Walker glasses, Ferragamo shoes…  When it comes to furniture though, you could find a mirror at Ikea for 85 bucks but will it have as much character as the one pictured above?  Probably not… Nadeau in the Ravenswood art district of Chicago is doing the most with their antique-like finds without the hefty price tags.  This isn’t your World Market brand of homogeny, it is unique and hard-to-find pieces made by artisans from India, Sri Lanka, etc.  The warehouse is fully stocked in over 5,000 sq. feet of furniture nirvana and the prices are very reasonable so don’t try to negotiate, the owner will not have it.  www.furniturewithasoul.com

What a great couch! This sexy sofa is made in a distressed clubcar brown leather studded in brass taps and sits on minimal walnut feet. The best thing about this sofa has the be the length… Tall boys (and the occasional girl) won’t have any problem plopping down and watching True Blood with me, comfortably. $4,000

Fangbangers Unite! (this only makes sense if you are a True Blood fan)

The Pilgrim glasses (pictured above) are my new summer faves!!!  I rock them all the time and they are large enough that I don’t even have to wear sunscreen (j/k).  Karen Walker has been established as a purveyor of high-end, quality glasses that are reasonably priced, chic, and have a celebrity following. The New Zealand born fashion designer has a reputation for her original, effortless and unpretentious style. The recurring theme of Karen´s work is taking extremes and pushing them together – masculine and feminine, tailored and street, luxury and non-luxury, dark and super-cute.  Known for her quirky ads (current ones feature model vampires donning the sexy sunglasses) whimsical ‘arrow’ logo and her hip, retro styles these glasses will satisfy any big-glasses loving, night-time sunglass-wearing addicts anywhere.. including vampires.

Karen Walker Eyewear can be found at Barney’s, Hejfina (Chicago), karenwalkereyewear.com, amongst several online outlets.

Nice Suit, Eh?!

Ah, the Canadian tuxedo.  Nothing quite like it.  Appropriate for weddings yet rugged enough for the rodeo…  Why not, right?  You wear your jeans everyday, why not throw on a denim shirt and a jean jacket to boot?  What some men don’t see is, LESS is most-definitely MORE as demonstrated above in our denim fiasco.   What men’s fashions do you question?!! Here are some of my favorite, ala http://stylecrave.com/2009-08-11/worst-fashions/

I don’t remember ever seeing this on the runways and by the picture I would guesstimate late 80’s early-90’s… WHY?? WHY?! WHY!!  Listen up guys, never ever anything strapless.EVER. (pictures are priceless)

Breathtaking Beauty in the Hollywood Hills

skyline1 10 Contemporary and Cutting Edge Homes of the Future

Wouldn’t you love to live at this Hilltop Retreat in the Hollywood Hills.  Look at that infinite view.  Look at the built-in outdoor projection screen.  Yes, that is a floating stainless fireplace.  NOt only is this ULTIMATE bachelor’s pad easy on the eye, it is as GREEN as the money that paid for it.  Designed to take full advantage of the California sun and hilltop winds, the Skyline Residence sits along a steep ridgeline overlooking Los Angeles. Natural light pours into the home, and a single interior corridor keeps the heat away from bedrooms. For ventilation, doors on two opposite sites of the home can be opened to let air flow through. Come to PAPA!

Not your average Man Bag

A "man-bag" without all that baggage.

A "man-bag" without all that baggage.

I love man bags and am fully aware of all the stereotypes associated with them…. This one is unlike them all- giving the urban male a practical and MASCULINE way of carrying our personal effects, i.e. Cell phones, PDA, Ipod, cigarettes, stun gun. ya’ know, all the necessities needed to navigate our dark metropolis. Just don’t make any sudden movements while in the presence of cops. All straps are sold separately
~ €500 as shown.http://www.koffski.com/index.php?mnav=3206&nnav=3952
